Disaster Response and Refugee Healthcare

URGENT: Members of our Humanitarian Response Team are currently in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, to launch a relief response for the Rohingya people fleeing the conflict zone of Rakhine state, Myanmar. This crisis is escalating rapidly, and we are dedicated to meeting the immediate health needs of these refugees.

We are called to meet urgent needs, intervening in catastrophes that compel our immediate attention and where overwhelming needs outstrip the local capacity to respond. Natural disasters and refugee crises often unleash chaos, but disaster response is a science. It's where expertise, precision, and rehearsal come together to make a lifesaving difference.

This is the kind of activity that launched Medical Teams International nearly 40 years ago. It's core to our DNA and the first step in bringing healing to human suffering.

Our volunteer Humanitarian Response Teams provide critical medical care and lifesaving supplies when hurricanes, earthquakes, conflict, or any number of natural and man-made disasters threaten lives.

Helping the vulnerable survive

In any disaster, there are critical healthcare needs that must be addressed. Poor sanitation and inaccessible healthcare can quickly escalate into outbreaks and staggering levels of suffering. Particularly in countries where health systems were already weak, crises can create a serious lack of care and humanitarian crises.

Disaster Relief: Floods, earthquakes, outbreaks...

Medical Teams International’s Disaster Response program is designed to provide a swift, coordinated disaster recovery plan in a humanitarian crisis situation. Collaborating with local government agencies, we evaluate the disaster impact and coordinate with our standby pool of trained and experienced disaster response volunteers to send humanitarian aid within 48 hours.

Refugee Relief: Providing healthcare in man-made disasters

Violence and war are forcing millions to flee for their lives. With only the clothes on their back, many families must re-start in desperate conditions. Without accessible healthcare, crowded refugee camps can mean disaster for families who have nowhere else to go. The problem is only growing-- there are more displaced people now than ever before. Humanitarian response is critical in the face of increased tensions and inadequate healthcare.
