Disaster Response and Refugee Healthcare

URGENT: Members of our Humanitarian Response Team--along with volunteer medical professionals--are currently in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, to bring emergency relief to the Rohingya people who have fled the conflict zone of Rakhine state, Myanmar. This crisis is escalating rapidly--especially with monsoon season threatening the region--and we are dedicated to meeting the immediate health needs of these refugees.  

We are called to meet urgent needs, intervening in catastrophes that compel our immediate attention and where overwhelming needs outstrip the local capacity to respond. Natural and humanitarian disasters often unleash chaos, so we provide life-saving medical care for people in crisis.  

This is the kind of activity that launched Medical Teams International nearly 40 years ago. Going where we're needed most, we provide loving care to save lives and leave communities healthier.

Our volunteer teams provide critical medical care and lifesaving supplies when hurricanes, earthquakes, conflict, or any number of natural and man-made disasters threaten lives.

Helping the vulnerable survive

In any disaster, there are critical needs that must be met for people to survive. A lack of clean water, poor sanitation, and an absence of medical care can quickly escalate into disease outbreaks and staggering levels of illness and suffering. Particularly in countries where health systems were already weak, crises can jeopardize people's ability to get the care they desperately need. 

Disaster Relief: Floods, earthquakes, outbreaks...

Our disaster relief program is designed to provide a swift, coordinated response in times of crisis. Collaborating with local government agencies and trusted partners on the ground, we evaluate the impact of a disaster and then mobilize our standby pool of trained and experienced humanitarian response volunteers to begin providing life-saving medical care, often within 48 hours.
