Portland, Ore. – Nov. 22, 2017 – Medical Teams International, a leading global health and disaster relief organization, is once again joining #GivingTuesday, a day that harnesses the collective power of individuals and organizations to encourage philanthropy and celebrate generosity worldwide.
In the past, #GivingTuesday has highlighted the compassion of Medical Teams’ donors, who contributed a one-day figure of $35,000 in 2016. In 2017, Medical Teams is matching every donation up to $20,000, so its donors’ gifts will do twice as much good around the world.
Taking place on November 28, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It kicks off the holiday giving season in a way that promotes charity, enticing people to give back to the causes they support. #GivingTuesday seeks to increase donations and promote a culture of giving.
“Giving Tuesday reminds us to never underestimate the power of giving, especially during the holidays,” said Jon Beighle, vice president of Medical Teams International. “As we enter a season of reflection and generosity, let’s not lose sight of the millions of people around the world affected by wars and extreme poverty.”
Beighle added: “The $20,000 match means our donors can serve more people during a time of unprecedented need.”
